In 1958, Hillcrest Cemetery was opened to everyone on Bainbridge Island and the surrounding area. Designed in a Memorial Park Style, this serene and peaceful place was to become a place for families to visit and remember those who had gone before them. Over the years Hillcrest has become the final resting place for many storied families. From Veterans and survivors of the WWII Internment Camps to well-known locals and countless Island families, the history at Hillcrest is unique and honored.
From its rolling landscape to the beauty of the mature trees along with a vibrant pond, Hillcrest is a quiet place of reflection and remembrance. A place where on a warm summer day families can be found sitting alongside their beloved family members and reflecting on a life well-lived.
In 2018, Hillcrest was purchased by Cook Family Funeral Home. Shortly after, the new owners added Green Burial options and began to renovate and restore various sections of the cemetery. They have also added different cremation memorial options and are looking forward to future improvements that have been planned, such as a scattering garden and the replanting of Blossoming Cherry Trees which at one time lined the drives of this beautiful place.
In December of 2020, Hillcrest Cemetery became the first and only cemetery to become certified by the Green Burial Council on the Kitsap Penninsula and surrounding area. This certification adds yet another chapter to our interesting history and makes Hillcrest Cemetery the perfect choice for many different families looking for unique and personal memorialization options.
